The backsides of the signs were just as fascinating, if not more so, than the front. It was rare to see the front and back combined, and I loved how the shadows would dance across the signs. The unseen “bones” or marionette-like strings of metal supports became visible, holding the signs together. Even without all their razzle-dazzle, the signs still held a magical quality.
