As my time at the Boneyard was drawing to a close, I started focusing more closely on the bulbs and tubes. I was fascinated by how the sign’s surface aged in the elements, from rust and peeling paint to screws and wires. Painting those intricate details—coils, glass, and all the tiny components—felt delightful in the warmth of the sun.
These particular letters are from the Boulevard Hotel, which I believe was designed by Betty Willis, the creator of the famous "Welcome to Fabulous Las Vegas" sign. The Boulevard Hotel, once a mid-century gem on the Las Vegas Strip, attracted visitors with its neon charm and prime location. Though the hotel is now gone, its signage remains preserved in the Boneyard, capturing a piece of Las Vegas history.
