This is one of the first still life paintings of flowers this season. The glass vase with glass marbles was tricky. I began the paintings of this spring on black gesso surfaces. I felt that after 18 months of quarantine that we were all making a journey from the dark to the light. I knew that there would be a lot to learn about colors when applying them to a black background and I was right. It hasn't always been easy but it has been very rewarding to see colors come to light from the black.
