For many years I spent months at a time in Guatemala. I lived on the shores of Lago Atitlan. I spent many weeks in Antigua. My dear friend has a lovely boutique hotel, restaurant and gallery. I think I had a total of 5 shows there. We met at an art class in Taos, New Mexico. My first show at the gallery was of chine colle collages that I made in Taos. My first stay was two months. I brought down some red hand made Tibetan lokte paper that I cut into 8 x 10” pieces. I got myself some gouache and a small satchel to carry my new medium and supplies in while I walked around the villages around the lake, followed by the city of Antigua. I spent three years returning to paint there as it was so inspirational. All the works from this period of time have sold. I am uncertain of their titles. What I am certain about is what a wonderful experience it was for me to paint there. I taught myself interior and exterior compositions that never stopped inspiring me. This style of painting continued for years in different parts of the country and other series. I loved painting in Guatemala. My first show was called The Good Red Road. These paintings have a naïveté that developed into a much surer hand and eye so some of the innocence was lost as the expertise was gained. I will do my best to share these in a chronological order. I hope that you enjoy them all.
